Building Knowledge, Strengthening Communities
NICAFV would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in Ottawa for an inspiring week of training, learning, and collaboration.
Throughout the week, shelter leaders, frontline workers, service providers, presenters, and partners from across Canada came together to strengthen their knowledge, share experiences, and build skills that will support Indigenous women, children, families, and communities. Participants attended the Social Justice Conference, Addictions/Intervention Training, and Indigenous Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue, professional development, and relationship building.
We are especially proud to celebrate the 52 participants who completed Indigenous Mental Health First Aid training and the 13 individuals who continued on to become MHFA Trainers. These trainers will help expand access to culturally relevant mental health education and support in Indigenous communities across Canada, creating lasting impacts for years to come.
The week was filled with valuable discussions on mental health, addictions, wellness, trauma-informed approaches, victim support, self-care, and strengthening frontline responses to the challenges faced by our communities. Equally important were the opportunities to connect, share knowledge, and support one another in a safe and welcoming environment.
NICAFV would like to thank all participants, presenters, facilitators, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, partners, and supporters who contributed their time, expertise, and lived experiences. Your dedication to supporting Indigenous women, children, families, and communities continues to inspire and strengthen our collective work.
Together, we are building stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.
