LANDFILL SEARCH UPDATE

With sadness, the search of the Prairie Green landfill site in Winnipeg was brought to an end last month.

The complete remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran were not recovered, partial remains only.

With the Prairie Green search concluded, personnel and equipment are being moved to the Brady

landfill to continue the search for Ashlee Shingoose’s remains. Ashlee’s father, Albert Shingoose, states

that he is trying to stay strong as the process begins for his daughter. Albert will also be pushing the

Province to search the Brady site for the remains of Tanya Nepinak, believed to have been taken there

over 10 years ago after she went missing at the age of 31. A brief 6-day search was conducted in 2012

for Tanya but no remains or evidence were found during this time frame. Murder charges were laid

against Shawn Lamb, but were stayed for lack of evidence.

Ashlee Shingoose who had been the lone unknown victim in the case, was finally identified in March of

this year. Her family will now get the chance to tell the court how her death affected them. Ashlee was

30 years old and believed to be the first victim in the case. Although the perpetrator has already been

convicted, Ashlee’s family did not yet have the opportunity to deliver an impact statement as her

identity at the time was still unknown. A hearing will be held on August 15 th at 10:00 am to hear their

impact statements. Chief Justice Glenn Joyal will oversee the hearing calling it “appropriate and

necessary in these exceptional circumstances.” “It is an important opportunity to acknowledge the

dignity of the victim and make real the suffering of, and impact on, the victim’s family.”

As always, the NICAFV family wishes all the families affected by this tragic case, love and healing.
