Funding Update for Legacy Shelters

NICAFV would like to confirm that top-up funding for Legacy Shelters has been secured for the 2026–2027 fiscal year.

This funding is included in current program allocations and has been distributed to regional offices. Legacy Shelters can expect to receive this additional support as part of this year’s funding.

Top-up funding remains an important step toward addressing funding differences between Legacy Shelters and newer facilities, helping to strengthen operations and support continued service delivery.

A recent federal announcement has also confirmed that this funding will continue as part of a multi-year commitment, extending through 2030–2031, reinforcing long-term support for shelters and transitional housing.

This continued investment supports the safety and well-being of Indigenous women, children, families, and 2SLGBTQI+ people across Canada.

If your shelter experiences any delays or challenges accessing this funding, NICAFV encourages you to reach out.

NICAFV remains committed to advocating for equitable funding and supporting shelters across all regions. We recognize the essential work you do and will continue to ensure your voices are heard.
