Strengthening Community Supports Through Mental Health First Aid

NICAFV was pleased to host a 2.5-day Indigenous Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in Winnipeg, Manitoba, bringing together participants from Indigenous shelters and community organizations for an engaging and impactful learning experience.

The training provided participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognize, understand, and respond to individuals experiencing mental health challenges or crises. Through interactive discussions, activities, and culturally relevant learning, participants explored ways to provide support while reducing stigma surrounding mental health within Indigenous communities.

Indigenous Mental Health First Aid emphasizes hope, connection, and early intervention, equipping participants with practical tools to assist individuals experiencing mental health concerns while encouraging pathways to appropriate professional and community supports.

NICAFV would like to thank all participants for their enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment throughout the training. By strengthening mental health knowledge and capacity within Indigenous shelters and communities, participants are helping to create safer, healthier, and more supportive environments for those they serve.

We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of this training and look forward to continuing to support opportunities for learning, wellness, and community capacity building.
